Scarf Joint clamping setup

First the longer neck piece is clamped to the bench.

Then the smaller piece is flanked by two pieces to serve as clamping cauls. They are covered in packing tape to prevent gluing them to anything.

Here is a closeup. Notice how the lower piece does not cover the end of the wood. Leave at least 1/8".

Next tap the smaller piece onto the larger piece with a hammer. Light taps shoud drive out the glue.

Next clamp it all in place. Start with clamping the smaller piece to the bench very firmly so it does not move. Then clamp the cauls slowly applying pressure.
