2005 Myka Dragonfly Custom #019This guitar is the cousin to my Andrew Olson #26. Andrew and I met at a guitar show in Saratoga Springs, NY and started talking about guitars and more specifically about experimenting with veneered spruce tops on hollowbody guitars. So we made a trade to see what each other would come up with. The only parameter for these guitars was that the top had to be spruce with a burl veneer (and Macassar ebony details because it is a beautiful wood). Everything else was somewhat of a surprise. The result is not only a very striking guitar but the feedback control is excellent. A veneered top is now an option on all of my Dragonfly guitars (or my electrics for that matter (even acoustics)). The tonal qualities put the archtops closer to laminated top territory while still retaining the warmth and range of spruce. Again, you have superior feedback control without sacrificing the spruce tone. What more could you ask for in an electric archtop?
Now this is curly black limba!
Notice the fine transition of the burl veneer. Getting the edges perfect is key to making this look great. Also note the lacquer to oil transition.
The sterling silver fret markers add a nice touch.
